Educator. Graduate Student. Prospective Researcher. Technical Writing Specialist.
Hello, my name is Joseph Meyers. My current goals include achieving a doctoral degree in communication studies and pursuing a career in higher education providing instruction in this area of study. As an instructor at a higher education institution, I would like to perform research into communications theory, particularly in the field of organizational communication. I am a third-generation educator and current graduate student in the communication studies field, now beginning my career in education as a substitute teacher in K-12 education.
I have had 6+ years of prior experience in various sectors of the service industry, including table service, bar service, and hospitality management. I believe that my wide array of employment experience can be a great tool for any employer. Particularly during my time in management roles, I have learned the importance of providing exemplary service to customers and generally demonstrating a pattern of consistently excellent work.
I have experience providing service to clients in both face-to-face and virtual environments. I am fully proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, with particular focus towards Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word, and my typing speed averages around 70 WPM. I have experience in direct customer service, employee training and management, and data entry. I also have experience in personnel management, including direct management, training, and interviewing of employees.
Finally, throughout my coursework I have learned and subsequently demonstrated competency in principles of technical writing and editing, particularly concerning plain language and tone of voice editing. I have earned an associate’s degree from Tarrant County College and a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas, the latter of which was achieved with a 4.0 UNT GPA. I am currently working towards my master’s degree in Technical and Professional Communication at UNT.
